Did you know that the sound of your own voice is beautiful medicine designed just for you? Come experience the centering, relaxing, and healing power of sound and vibrations that you help create at the Healing Harmony Circle Workshop. Part sound bath and part "spontaneous choir", we gather to share the uplifting sounds of singing bowls and our own voices. Together, we create ethereal and relaxing frequencies that are unique to the moment.
What Happens During the Circle?
We sit in a circle on cushions, mats, or in chairs and bathe in the sounds as we do vocal toning (making long vowel sounds with our voices) and listen to 432hz tuned singing bowls. We also use guided imagery to help us relax, open and align ourselves. Each person will have an opportunity to share aspects of their experience, if desired.
What If I Can’t Sing?
You do not have to be a singer to participate! This is the perfect place for non-singers, aspiring singers, and singers alike to use their voices with no fear of judgement! Toning is an easy and natural way to use the voice and most anyone can do it. There is no song or “part” to learn, you make whatever sound feels right to you in the moment. If you are hearing impaired or unable to produce sound with your vocal cords, you are welcome to attend and enjoy the vibrations.
What Are the Benefits of the Healing Harmony Circle?
Singing has been clinically proven to reduce cortisol levels, increase oxytocin and endorphin levels, improve breathing, and relieve depression and anxiety. Breathing deeply and extending your exhale (as in singing) also stimulates the vagus nerve, reducing systemic inflammation and shifting your nervous system out of chronic "fight or flight" stress mode.
Using sound therapy instruments and your own voice helps to:
-Open and clear your energy centers
-Relieve stress and anxiety
-Bring you out of scattered mind states
-Be more assertive
-Open your heart and throat chakras
-Access the healing power of your breath
-Regulate your nervous system
-Lift you out of a heavy mood
Over the years, attendees have shared with me that the Circle gives them a feeling of clarity and lightness, and there is a sense of being transported to a higher realm. Attendees have also experienced benefits related to throat chakra opening, such as more ease in speaking up for themselves, being authentic, and speaking their truth.
Here is an example of vocal toning that a friend and I recorded in the Olentangy Caverns:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=636Q5bmBvwk
Preparing for Your Visit:
We recommend you bring a leakproof bottle of water to drink as it's helpful for extended periods of singing.
Some mats, cushions, and chairs are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if you like. All people ages 12 and up are welcome to attend. We will have time after for tea and chatting, if desired.
Fee: $49 (10% off automatically applied for members). *If you have financial concerns about attending, please contact the studio.

Book Club 3-Part Series. Wintering by Katherine May
Wintering: The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times by Katherine May is a reflective memoir about navigating the darker, more challenging seasons of life. Seasonal Self-Care with Ayurveda with Melinda VanKirk
Release holiday stress and prepare for the cold of winter with gentle yoga and simple Ayurvedic self-care practices.
In this 2-hour workshop, you will practice self-care through nurturing gentle yoga, exploration of your dosha (mind-body type), and abhyanga (or self-massage). You'll identify your dosha type, learn how to implement some stress-relieving Ayurvedic self-care practices, and create body oil blends suitable for your dosha and for the season. You'll also learn simple foot, hand, and facial massage techniques using your personal oil blend.
Ayurveda is described as "the sister science to yoga" - it is the traditional Hindu system of medicine, which is based on the idea of balance in bodily systems. In Ayurveda, each of us has a unique mind-body type, known as a dosha - your individual blueprint that describes your unique personality, tendencies, and physical nature. Understanding your dosha reveals how to keep yourself in balance to stay happy, healthy and disease free.
This workshop is limited to 14 participants.
Fee: $59 (all supplies included, 10% off automatically applied for members). *If you have financial concerns about attending, please contact the studio.

      Wisdom Circle Community Gathering
This circle was formed from the “Leaning Into Aging” workshop held earlier this year from interest in continued exploration of the topics around how we can lift each other up as we all celebrate and honor ourselves at any age. This group continues to expand and has become an amazing community of support and discussion. Each time we meet, we welcome newcomers and new perspectives.
For our November gathering, we will come together to express our perceptions of what “leaning into aging” might look like through creating individual “vision boards”, a shared group activity done while conversing in our usual free flowing manner. (supplies are provided but individuals are encouraged to bring old magazines and other publications for harvesting pictures for our boards.)
Our session will be wrapped in a meditation led by Laurie at the beginning to encourage relaxation and release and at closing to further enhance the receiving of wisdom enjoyed in community.
“Sitting around sharing stories is not just passing time…it’s the way wisdom gets passed along; it’s the way life teaches us to live.” -from Kitchen Table Wisdom by Rachel Naomi Rema
Registration is Free, newcomers welcome! In lieu of charging for this event, cash donations will be collected to benefit Columbus Humane. Click here to donate online or learn about how to support the organization.
