Katie Audia, instructor
RYT200, Katie chose to begin practicing yoga to cope with intense stress and anxiety. For Katie, the practice of yoga amounted to more than just a coping skill, it became a way of living and being, an opportunity to reconnect with the physical body, and a pathway of connection with her authentic self. Yoga changed Katie’s life in many ways, and as a mental health and trauma therapist, she recognizes how yoga can be an essential tool for healing.
Katie completed yoga teacher training with Yoga In Vienna and teaches Hatha, Vinyasa, and Gentle styles of yoga. She has been teaching yoga for 1 year and has continued expanding her practice and knowledge on yogic philosophy and is currently working toward her Yin Yoga Teacher Certification. Katie strives to provide a safe and compassionate space for students to explore their practice and expand their physical, emotional and spiritual wellness.
More About Katie
Q.- How did you first come to find yoga? I remember the first time I was ever exposed to yoga was when my mom would pop in a VHS tape and practice in the living room. I decided to pursue teacher training when I attended a class of one of my favorite teachers. It was so beautifully crafted—tying in life lessons at different points and truly speaking to me. I remember a thought popping into my head saying, “I want to do this. I want to provide a method of creative self-expression for my clients.” I signed up for teacher training the following day.
Q.- What are some key ways it has supported you in your life? For most of my life, I could not sit still. I would become over-consumed with my thoughts and avoided all unpleasant emotions. I always heard how mindfulness-based practices and yoga can help, but it is much easier said than done! Once I allowed myself space for stillness and continued my practice, I began proving to myself that I am more than my physical body, I am more than my thoughts, and I am more than my emotions.
Q- Is there anything else you'd like to share about yourself? I have a career as a trauma therapist and recognize the importance of trauma-informed practices when teaching. I love to integrate breathing techniques, movement and meditation focused on calming the nervous system. I also love astrology and integrate astrological concepts into my classes frequently!
Q- If you could learn anything new what would it be? I have been wanting to learn pole dancing for quite some time. I have a background in cheerleading and dance—and I would love to learn a new form of emotional expression through movement and some good tunes.
Q- Name something on your bucket list. Something on my bucket list is to complete my 500 level yoga teacher training overseas—this would contribute to my biggest bucket list goal, which is to visit every continent in the world at least once.
