Maya Losnedahl, Instructor

RYT 200 - Maya first discovered yoga as a teenager through her interest in meditation and Eastern spirituality. After deep diving into the practice and philosophy of yoga, Maya pursued her 200-hour yoga teacher training with Fannie Hungerford in Iowa City, Iowa in 2018. This training, aptly named “Kavi” or Sanskrit for “poet” or “wise one” was rich in Ayurvedic and Tantric knowledge. Maya taught her first yoga class as a certified teacher on her 21st birthday.

In the years since completing her training, Maya has continued to study the Ayurvedic tradition and to delve deeper into the possibilities opened through pranic awareness and tantric meditation. Maya’s yogic philosophy lies in using asana as a vehicle to unlock profound meditative and trance experiences. Maya sets the goal to always send students away with something that they can carry from their mat into the rest of their day.

Maya is also an EFT (emotional freedom technique/tapping) master practitioner and believes deeply in the power of energy medicine. Aside from practicing and teaching yoga, Maya is a high school English teacher, a sourdough baker, and is admittedly obsessed with thrifting, estate sales, and yard sales.

Maya offers Gentle Yoga on Wednesday evenings.

More about Maya

Q.- How did you first come to find yoga? I was led to yoga through my beautiful experiences with meditation. After realizing that yoga could not only improve the way I felt in my body, but could serve as a tool for diving deeper into meditation, I was obsessed!

Q.- What are some key ways it has supported you in your life? My practices of yoga and meditation have cultivated a calm nervous system that supports me in my day to day life. I have also been inspired to be a lifelong student. There is so much to learn and to experience!

Q. What do you like most about teaching? I love connecting with my students, building community, and having the opportunity to share the knowledge that flows through me.

Q- If you could learn anything new what would it be? I have a dream of enrolling at Maharishi University to earn a degree in Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine. Aside from that, I am always yearning to develop new crafting skills--making/altering clothes, pottery, and stained glass are just a few things on my list.

Q- Is there anything else you'd like to share about yourself? I grew up in the Chicago area and went to college at the University of Iowa. I moved to Columbus in early 2025 and have enjoyed every moment of this adventure. In June 2025, I found an adorable little toy poodle, abandoned in the street! He has become the sweetest companion and I have loved becoming a dog mom.
